Having mixed feelings about blogging. When I first started blogging. I wanted a platform for showcasing new artists. But since I’ve moved to New York, all of my time and energy is spent just trying to keep my head above water. A blog is basically an online journal. Maybe this will just be temporary and open up doors to new ventures. The only time that I’ll have time to blog is when I’m on the train ride from Jamaica Estates into Manhattan for work. And I would rather be reading during that time. My commute is about an hour. Not including the 20 minute ride to the train station. I still have my car, that’s a luxury that I can’t give up right now. After all of the hustle and bustle, I can hop in my car and glide on home in comfort. Or on off days I can use it to get me into other boroughs quickly. . It’s way cheaper to live in the suburban areas and commute into the city. It’s just time consuming. I looked at a place in the city and it was literally 15 minutes from everything. And it was also twice as expensive. For now, I’ll commute. Crossing my fingers to win the housing lottery here. I do have a lot of interesting and funny stories to share, but I can’t be blowing people’s spots up like that. So I’ll have to have a watered down version of my life. Like a PG-13 version...lol. Not that I’m some wild woman out in these streets. I don’t even drink or smoke. I never acquired a taste for alcohol and smoking just doesn’t make sense to me. I geuss I might be a tad boring to some. Or maybe that’s my niche...appealing to others that like what I like. People who are into the arts, fashion and style, reading, exploring New York, good music, really good food, and natural skin and hair care. Something kind of like an online mini magazine of my very own.
I’m...still a little apprehensive. I’m just not sure that this will be such a great idea. Who’s interested in my boring little life. I museum hop, I don’t club hop. And I fall in love with books. And listen to old school music, thrift shopping and bargain hunting. I love to create funky outfits. So maybe I could write about that. But what’s the purpose of writing all of your business out into the World Wide Web? If I was selling something, then I can see how the blog could benefit my business. But I’m not selling anything.I thought about being a blogger for new transplants to New York. I could take you on tours into each borough and together we could check out new spots in the area. And I could do reviews on the different places that I visit. That’s kind of interesting. Then I think I’d change the name...Hhhhm what would it be. Maybe I could focus on one area...my favorite and call it “Adventures in Harlem World” or “Navigating New York” or something like that...Now that’s interesting. I want to do more than just the same ole style blog, showcasing what I wore for the day. That’s boring...for sure. I can eventually branch off into different things later. There may be a name change and new vision for my blog. So, as of now you can still follow me on my journey through these boroughs.
Hope you enjoy it, as much as I do. Oh by the way...does anyone have any leads on some affordable places in Harlem? I’m thinking about relocating. I’ve heard that the Harlem brownstones that were being practically given away in the 80’s are selling for millions now. So without 57 roommates, that’s out of the question for me. Maybe one day...but not today. That’s a blog post right there, on affordable housing and gentrification in New York. I’ll just write about things that interest me. A little peek into my little life. And some morning musings every now and then as I travel through the subways in the wee hours of the morning.
Well there you have it. My first official entry. Now let me hurry up and grab my cup of tea to start my day. I have a lot more planned, but it’s all a work in progress.
